House of Hackney comes to Shoreditch

A riot of colour and print arrives right to the heart of Shoreditch. 

House of Hackney is a home furnishing store with a difference… Their mission statement is to rid the world of ‘greige’(grey & beige). Their non-conformist approach and bold aesthetic has had them described as ‘Colefax & Fowler on Acid’.

All of House of Hackney’s production is UK based and their style harks back to a bygone era, with velvet palm printed sofas and fabrics in a myriad of  designs decorating the two floor store. The William Morris style decor is traditional and luxurious with a wide range of products on offer including some fashion items and crockery.

Sussie Bubble was spotted getting inspired and meeting the designers Javvy Royle and Frieda Gormley.

Walking around the store one feels like they could be in a room set at The Geffrye Musuem. This in the antithesis of minimalism with a print design on practically everything you look at.

House of Hackney became established selling their wares in Liberty, which seems to be a match made in Heaven given the Liberty style and Arts and Crafts building.

Cosmetics A la Carte 40th Anniversary

40 years in any business is worth celebrating. Cosmetics A la Carte celebrated their 40th Anniversary in true style, they brought their West End glamour to the heart of the East End for their launch this week. 

Curator Ryan Lanji thought it fitting to bring the make up innovators to the centre of innovation.

Amoungst the cosmetics, press clippings and other ephemera are amazing sculptures by Alex Noble and new illustration from a selection of illustration students and more established designers from the London College of Fashion.

Samson Soboye was proud to have photographic images included in the exhibition that were the only photographic examples showing make-up in the exhibition. The collaborative project was photographed by Armin Weisheit with Nora Nona providing the art direction and make-up, and Barbara Jablonska providing the hairdressing.

SOBOYE @Grand Design SHOW 2013 at Excel

Samson Soboye had the opportunity to included as part a set at the Grand Design Show London in May. Cushions designed by Soboye were used as part of the bedroom set concepted by Interior designer Kate Monckton. 

The Ankara and Kente cloth cushions complemented the African themed room, with the added feature of african style wall art above the head of the bed!

Also decorated with patterned cushions by Lesley Muscat and natural earth coloured textures. The neutral base tones of greens, browns and beige were highlighted with accent tones of  bright reds, yellows and blues.

Emerald Faerie lighting and costume jewellery @SOBOYE

Soboye is proud to announce the arrival bespoke hand-made Designer lighting and jewellery from Emerald Faerie.

The pieces are individually made by East London based Fiona Gall.

Fiona Gall is a contemporary lighting and jewellery designer that founded her company, Emerald Faerie in 1999. Inspired as a young girl by the beautifully illustrated birds of paradise and botanical drawings that her Father brought home from work, Fiona’ s love of illustrating such heavenly creatures took her to study Art and Design and then onto Hereford where she took a degree in Design Craft.

Each one of Fiona’s handcrafted creations is a unique piece of functional art, enhancing the atmosphere and beauty of her clients’ spaces. Trawling auction rooms across the globe she uses her magpie magic for found objects to source a variety of unusual antique objects such as, glass and sparkling vintage diamante pieces, which she then combines with wire, glass tubing and sheet metals, to create opulent chandeliers, large sculptural plant forms and delicate hand bag shaped light pieces and lingerie inspired wall lights. Her unique method of construction allows her to integrate objects that have historical or sentimental importance to her clients into her pieces, giving each one a truly bespoke quality. The work is evocative of a by gone era yet updated with modern aesthetic and hark back to the Art Deco and Art Nouveau periods.

                     

Celeste

The Celeste chandelier is a smaller version of a chandelier commissioned by shoe designer Terry de Havilland to cleverly display and hi-light a pair of his shoes. It is comprised of gold and silver chain. Victorian and Swarovski crystals and silver spikes to add a punky edge to a stunning centre piece.

Jewellery

Emerald Faerie jewellery brings new meaning to statement jewellery with a combinationof mixed media adding to the overall effect of the handcrafted pieces.

Breast plates, collars and shoulder pieces are all given the Emerald Faeries handy touch and have a modern lux appeal to them.

Triffid Lamps

The Triffid is a classic table lamp based upon fruit blossom and fuchsias, this piece developed slowly over time and was inspired by the flowers themselves and oriental pen and ink drawings.  They are still lifes contained within antique glass globes that are gentle and illuminating.

Emerald Faerie welcomes commissions and can include personal artefacts to a bespoke piece.

If you have been out and about in Islington recently you might think some this work looks familiar, well perhaps that’s because you would have seen it at The House of the Wolf, who commissioned Fiona to design the lighting for the refurbished bar.

Today on Calvert Avenue ~ MAWI press day

MAWI had their press day today for their Autumn/Winter 2013-14 collection and didn’t dissappoint on the glitter; glam and wow factor with the new collection going off the scale on the blingometer.

This collection is full of new innovative pieces and must haves for the MAWI lovers and true statement jewellery afficianados.

The new additions to the Glitter Clutches are amazing - the colour palette has been extended and the new components are true to the MAWI aesthetic. 

The Amethyst settings in these clutches set these styles apart and makes these ultralux.
