Ituen Basi added to our collection of designers for our AFRICA@SOBOYE event

Ituen Basi has arrived to SOBOYE just in time to be part of our Africa@SOBOYE pop-up.

Woven Bodice of this dress adds vibrant colour and texture.
I was delighted to be offered four amazing dresses from the talented Ituen Basi by Ola Shobowale creative director of the Infinite Beauty Factory. Ituen Basi trained at the London College of Fashion; after graduating with a BA in Theatre Arts from Obafemi Awolowo University Ile-Ife. Her training at the London College of Fashion enabled her to deepen her knowledge and formalized her experience in the fashion industry. She now also runs a small manufacturing unit in Nigeria making collections and production for emerging designers.
Her designs are colourful and use her signature use of Ankara taking it to new levels of inventiveness with the use of fringing and beads covered in the fabric.

The selection included in the store are one-offs and epitomize the fashion spirit that is coming out of Nigeria right now, using new ways of using age old fabrics and fusing new silhouettes with modern western styling to contemporise African Fashion and widening it’s audience to an insatiable follower of fashion.
This followed a trade embargo in Nigeria on importing fabric into the country forcing designers to be inventive in finding new ways to be creative with locally sourced fabrics and giving a new spin on what was available.
